Strateon User Manual

Strateon is a production allocation workspace for organizing projects, loading datasets, running simulations, reviewing results, and promoting trusted simulation output into official allocations.

This manual explains the day-to-day user journey in the application. It follows the way a user normally works: access the app, select or create a project, prepare project data, run simulations, inspect results, and update or override official allocation records.

1. Accessing Strateon

Strateon uses authenticated access. When you open the application, the system checks whether you are already signed in.

  1. Open the Strateon application URL provided by your organization.
  2. If you are not signed in, Strateon redirects you to the Auth0 login flow.
  3. Complete authentication with your approved company identity provider.
  4. After login, Strateon loads your workspace and opens the Projects experience.

During authentication or data loading, the app may show a loading screen. This is expected while Strateon verifies your session and retrieves the project portfolio available to your account.

If you cannot access the app, confirm that:

  • Your account has been provisioned for Strateon.
  • Your organization identity provider is available.
  • You are using the correct environment URL.
  • Your browser allows the authentication redirect to complete.

2. Understanding the Main Screen

After signing in, Strateon opens the project portfolio. This is the main entry point for the application.

The main screen helps you answer three questions:

  • Which projects are available to me?
  • What is the current status of each project?
  • Where should I go next: dashboard, data, simulations, allocations, documentation, or account settings?

Project Portfolio

The project portfolio shows the projects that your user can access. A project represents a field or operating asset in Strateon.

Depending on the view selected, you can review projects as:

  • A grid of project cards.
  • A list for compact scanning.
  • A map view when project location information is available.

Project cards may include project-level preview data such as production span, well counts, recent activity, or other portfolio metrics. The portfolio also includes summary KPI cards, such as total projects, layers, wells, and simulations.

Project Actions

Each project can expose an actions menu. From that menu, users can commonly:

  • Edit the project.
  • Open data management for that project.
  • Delete the project, if permissions and environment rules allow it.

Use these actions carefully. Editing project metadata changes how the project is described in the app. Deleting a project is destructive and should only be done when the project is no longer needed.

Strateon changes the sidebar depending on whether you are inside a project.

When no project is selected, the sidebar focuses on global navigation:

  • Projects: returns to the project portfolio.
  • Documentation: opens the documentation center, including this user manual.
  • My account: opens the user profile page.
  • Admin center: opens administrative configuration areas, when available to your role.

When a project is selected, the sidebar switches to project navigation:

  • Back to projects: returns to the portfolio.
  • Dashboard: opens the project dashboard.
  • Allocations: opens the official allocation workspace for the project.
  • Simulations: opens the simulation list and creation workflow.
  • Analytics: opens analytical views for the project.
  • Configuration / Settings: opens project settings where available.
  • Configuration / Datasets: opens dataset management for the selected project.

The active project is carried in the page URL as a project context. This is why project pages normally include ?project=<project-id> in the address.

3. Viewing and Creating Projects

Projects are the starting point for all operational work in Strateon. Datasets, simulations, dashboards, and allocations are organized under a project.

View Existing Projects

To view projects:

  1. Sign in to Strateon.
  2. Open Projects from the sidebar, or return to /.
  3. Review the project portfolio.
  4. Switch between grid, list, or map view if you need a different perspective.
  5. Use the project card or row to open the project.

Opening a project takes you to the project dashboard. From there, all project-level navigation keeps the same selected project context.

Create a Project

To create a new project:

  1. Open the Projects page.
  2. Select the create project action, such as Create New Project or New Project.
  3. Complete the project form.
  4. Provide the required project name and any available metadata, such as basin, country, operator, location, coordinate reference information, or geometry.
  5. Save the project.

After the project is created, Strateon adds it to the portfolio. You can then open it and begin loading datasets, reviewing the dashboard, and preparing simulations.

Edit Project Features

Project features are the metadata and settings that describe the project. They can include display name, basin, country, operator, location, coordinate information, and geometry-related fields.

To edit a project from the portfolio:

  1. Open the project actions menu.
  2. Choose Edit Project.
  3. Update the project fields.
  4. Save the changes.

To edit a project from the project dashboard:

  1. Open the project.
  2. Use the project sidebar Settings entry.
  3. Update the project form in the drawer.
  4. Save the changes.

Changes to project metadata affect the way the project appears across Strateon. They do not replace project datasets or simulation results by themselves.

4. Opening a Project Dashboard

The dashboard is the project landing page. It gives a high-level view of project performance and data availability.

To open the dashboard:

  1. Go to the Projects page.
  2. Select a project card, row, or map project.
  3. Strateon opens the project dashboard with the selected project context.

The dashboard typically includes:

  • KPI cards for production, injection, timelines, or inventory metrics.
  • Production and injection charts.
  • Cumulative and ratio views.
  • Balance charts.
  • Well rankings.
  • A map with project wells or geometry.
  • Import or data quality information.
  • A list of recent simulations.

Dashboard Controls

Use the dashboard controls to refine what you are seeing:

  • Time range: restrict charts and metrics to a period.
  • Unit system: switch displayed units where available.
  • Chart tabs: move between rates, cumulative values, ratios, or balance views.
  • Well selection: select wells from the map or related dashboard controls to focus metrics and charts.

The dashboard relies on the official dataset for the project when official project data is required. If dashboard data looks incomplete, confirm that the project has a dataset and that the correct dataset has been marked official.

5. Creating and Managing Datasets

Datasets provide the input data used by dashboards and simulations. A project can have one official dataset and multiple alternative datasets.

Open the Datasets Page

To manage datasets:

  1. Open a project.
  2. In the project sidebar, open Configuration.
  3. Select Datasets.

If you open Datasets without a project context, Strateon prompts you to select a project first.

Official Dataset and Alternative Datasets

The Datasets page separates data into two groups:

  • Official Dataset: the current source of truth for the project.
  • Alternative Scenarios: other datasets that can be reviewed, promoted, or used for simulation experiments.

The official dataset is important because dashboards and official project workflows use it as the trusted data source. Alternative datasets allow comparison, experimentation, or new data preparation before promotion.

Create a Dataset

To create a dataset:

  1. Open the Datasets page for a project.
  2. Select Create New Dataset.
  3. In the Data Management drawer, choose the ingestion method.
  4. Provide the dataset display name and optional description.
  5. Choose whether the dataset should be marked official.
  6. Load or define the data.
  7. Review the data.
  8. Submit or finish the workflow.

The dataset drawer supports different ingestion paths, depending on what your environment has enabled.

Common paths include:

  • Strateon files: upload the expected Strateon file set.
  • Sahara export files: upload files from the Sahara export format.
  • SQL query: prepare data from SQL query results.

When uploading files, Strateon may ask you to provide load modes for the file templates. Load modes control whether incoming records are appended, replaced, or handled according to the selected ingestion behavior.

After submission, Strateon may start a server workflow to process the dataset. While that workflow runs, the dataset may not be fully available yet. Return to the Datasets page or open the dataset viewer to confirm that records were loaded as expected.

View Dataset Data

To inspect a dataset:

  1. Open Datasets for the project.
  2. Find the official dataset or an alternative dataset.
  3. Select View Data.
  4. Review the dataset viewer.

The viewer opens in the project context and includes dataset metadata in the page URL, such as project name and dataset name.

Make a Dataset Official

To promote an alternative dataset:

  1. Open the Datasets page for the project.
  2. Find the dataset under Alternative Scenarios.
  3. Select Make Official.
  4. Wait for Strateon to refresh the dataset list.

After promotion, the selected dataset becomes the Official Dataset. The previous official dataset is no longer the active source of truth.

Delete a Dataset

To delete a dataset:

  1. Open the Datasets page.
  2. Select Delete Dataset for the target dataset.
  3. Confirm the deletion prompt.

Only delete a dataset when you are certain it is no longer required for dashboard review, simulation traceability, or audit purposes.

6. Creating Simulations

Simulations are created inside a project and use a selected project dataset as input.

Open the Simulations Page

To view simulations:

  1. Open a project.
  2. Select Simulations from the project sidebar.

The Simulations page lists project runs from the Strateon workflow repository. By default, it focuses on successful runs. You can use See all to include every status.

The page supports:

  • Search by simulation name.
  • Sorting by name, submitter, status, or date.
  • Pagination.
  • Direct access to a simulation result workspace.

Start a New Simulation

To create a simulation:

  1. Open the Simulations page for the project.
  2. Select New Simulation.
  3. Choose a simulation mode.
  4. Choose the dataset that will provide input data.
  5. Complete any mode-specific setup.
  6. Complete the simulation form.
  7. Continue through the form tabs.
  8. Select Save & Run when the final step is ready.

Choose a Simulation Mode

Strateon offers multiple simulation modes. Each mode controls the form fields and backend contract used for the run.

Mass Balance:

  • Tank-level run.
  • Uses the Darcy engine.
  • SSBA v2.0.
  • Configures density, fluid, and expert parameters.
  • Does not expose pattern-level allocation or Buckley-Leverett tuning fields.

Buckley-Leverett:

  • Pattern-level run.
  • SSBA v1.0.
  • Uses mass-balance injection allocation.
  • Uses Buckley-Leverett production allocation.
  • Includes streamline tuning and calibration inputs.

Integrated (Tank to BL):

  • Pattern-level Buckley-Leverett pipeline.
  • Uses results from prior runs for saturation and layer property limits.
  • Requires a project, a dataset, and two existing source simulations.

Choose a Dataset

After selecting the mode, choose the dataset for the simulation.

The dataset picker shows available datasets for the project. Official datasets are marked with an Official badge. You can still select an alternative dataset when you want to test a scenario without changing the project source of truth.

If no datasets exist, Strateon asks you to add or import a dataset first. Go to Datasets, create a dataset, and then return to Simulations.

Select Source Runs for Integrated Mode

Integrated mode requires source simulations from the same project and dataset.

You must select:

  • A run that provides saturation from secondary recovery.
  • A run that provides layer property limits.

Strateon lists recent runs and prefers successful runs when available. Select one source run for each section, then continue to the simulation form.

Complete the Simulation Form

The simulation form is generated from the project schema and filtered by the selected mode. Fields that are fixed by the mode are injected into the run payload and are not shown as editable controls.

Work through each form tab carefully:

  1. Complete required fields.
  2. Review default values.
  3. Check advanced or expert parameters when applicable.
  4. Use Continue to move through the form.
  5. On the final step, select Save & Run.

After submission, Strateon creates a workflow run. The run appears in the Simulations list when the workflow repository refreshes.

7. Viewing Simulation Results

Simulation results are opened from the Simulations list or from dashboard simulation cards.

To view results:

  1. Open a project.
  2. Go to Simulations.
  3. Find the simulation.
  4. Use the view action or simulation link.
  5. Strateon opens the simulation workspace.

The simulation workspace URL uses the workflow id and project context, commonly as /case?id=<workflow-id>&project=<project-id>.

Results Workspace

The simulation workspace is designed for analysis. Depending on the run output and available data, it can include:

  • Production and injection charts.
  • Layer and phase views.
  • Well filters.
  • Heatmaps or allocation comparison visuals.
  • Reservoir and diagnostic widgets.
  • Map or spatial views.
  • Workflow input inspection.
  • Workflow log inspection.

Use the filters and chart controls to narrow the result set by well, layer, phase, or time period.

Review Case Inputs

To inspect the input contract used for a run:

  1. Open the simulation workspace.
  2. Open Case inputs.
  3. Review the read-only form generated from the workflow input.json.
  4. Close the drawer when finished.

This is useful when you need to confirm exactly which parameters were submitted for a run.

Review Logs

To inspect workflow logs:

  1. Open the simulation workspace.
  2. Open Logs.
  3. Review the plain text workflow output.
  4. Close the drawer when finished.

Logs are useful for troubleshooting workflow status, backend processing, or unexpected results.

Override Production Data from the Simulation Workspace

Some simulation result views expose an Override Production Data drawer for a selected well.

Use this workflow when you need to analyze or adjust production allocation assumptions directly from a simulation context.

The drawer supports three decisions:

  • Keep Strateon: keep the calculated allocation factors.
  • Override with Kh: use Kh-based allocation factors.
  • Manual Override: enter custom allocation factors.

For Kh overrides, select whether the change applies to the selected date or all dates. For manual overrides, enter the custom factors required by the form and confirm the change. Strateon warns that manual changes affect simulation results and are logged.

8. Viewing Official Allocations

The Allocations page is the project workspace for reviewing official allocation data and updating it from simulation results.

To open allocations:

  1. Open a project.
  2. Select Allocations from the project sidebar.

If no project is selected, Strateon asks you to select a project first.

The Allocations page includes:

  • Key metrics for oil, water, gas, and allocation factors.
  • Filters for date range, identifiers, and search text.
  • Production by layer charts.
  • A hierarchical allocation table by date, well, and layer.
  • A details drawer for a selected well and date.
  • An Update Allocation action.

Use filters to focus the allocation table before opening details. For example, filter by identifier and date range before reviewing layer-level values.

9. Getting Official Allocations from Simulations

The official allocation update workflow imports the output of a selected simulation into the allocation records for a project.

To update official allocations from a simulation:

  1. Open the project.
  2. Go to Allocations.
  3. Select Update Allocation.
  4. In Merge Scenario / Update Allocation, choose the Source Simulation.
  5. Select the Start Date and End Date for the update.
  6. Add a Comment / Reason explaining why this simulation is being merged.
  7. Select Merge & Update.

The comment is important because allocation changes should be traceable. Use a concise explanation, such as the scenario name, review decision, or approval reference.

After the merge completes, refresh or review the allocation table to confirm that the selected simulation output is reflected in the official allocation workspace.

10. Overriding Official Allocations

Allocation overrides are performed from the allocation details drawer. This is separate from making a dataset official. Dataset promotion controls the official input source. Allocation overrides control the official allocation factors or values for wells, dates, and layers.

Open Allocation Details

To open the details drawer:

  1. Open Allocations for a project.
  2. Filter to the relevant date range or well if needed.
  3. In Allocation by date & well, choose the row or action that opens details.
  4. Review the selected identifier, date, totals, and layer breakdown.

The drawer includes charts, breakdowns, and tabs for detailed analysis. The Override tab is where allocation decisions are applied.

Keep Strateon

Choose Keep Strateon when the calculated allocation factors should remain unchanged.

This is the default decision. It is useful when you are reviewing a well/date and confirm that no override is required.

Override with Kh

Choose Override with Kh when Kh-based allocation factors should replace the current allocation factors.

The Kh workflow lets you choose the scope:

  • Apply to selected date only.
  • Apply to date range.
  • Apply to all dates.

When Kh data is available, Strateon shows a comparison between current factors and the new Kh factor. Review this comparison before applying the override.

If the comparison table says no Kh data is available, connect or load the Kh source first, or choose another well/date where Kh data exists.

Manual Override

Choose Manual Override when you need to set custom allocation factors.

Manual override supports several scopes:

  • Current Date Only.
  • All History - Flat.
  • All History - Calibration.
  • Date Range - Flat.
  • Date Range - Calibration.

When using date-range scopes, provide a start date and end date.

For manual factors, each fluid column must sum to 100 percent:

  • Oil allocation percentages must sum to 100 percent.
  • Water allocation percentages must sum to 100 percent.
  • Gas allocation percentages must sum to 100 percent.

Strateon disables the apply action until the manual allocation table is valid. This prevents incomplete or inconsistent allocation factors from being submitted.

Apply the Override

Before applying an override:

  1. Confirm the identifier and date context.
  2. Confirm the decision.
  3. Confirm the scope.
  4. Review the current vs proposed factors.
  5. Add a clear comment.
  6. Select Apply.

After the override succeeds, review the allocation table and audit information for the affected records.

For most project teams, the recommended operational flow is:

  1. Create or open the project.
  2. Load the project dataset.
  3. Mark the trusted dataset as official.
  4. Review the dashboard to confirm the project data looks reasonable.
  5. Create one or more simulations using the selected dataset.
  6. Review simulation results.
  7. Choose the simulation that should become the official allocation basis.
  8. Use Allocations > Update Allocation to merge the simulation into official allocation records.
  9. Review allocations by date, well, and layer.
  10. Apply Kh or manual overrides only when the review process requires them.
  11. Use comments and audit context so decisions remain traceable.
